Figured I would leave a review to help balance the one from 2021, because I had a verrryy different experience:

The apartment was large, and while my unit was partially underground there was still a lot of big windows and natural light! I love to cook and appreciated how large the kitchen was. The area had several walkable grocery stores, a bunch of dining options, and easy access to bus routes.

The building was built in the 1940's (I think), so it is an older building and had some of the issues you might expect. For example, pretty thin walls which let you hear kids running around on the upper levels and the neighbor's piano like it was in the room with you, etc. We also needed fairly regular repairs with random things breaking, such as a pipe under the floor boards, the sink backing up, etc. None of the issues felt like a safety hazard, just inconvenient. However, our landlord was great about addressing all of the issues quickly and without placing any blame on us. When we needed to have the pipe repaired under our floor she even gave us the month of rent for free for our trouble. I also never heard her blaming anyone else for issues around the building. Overall found her to be really reasonable, accommodating, and helpful. I suspect as long as you're a reasonable tenant who let's her know when there is an issue before it becomes a disaster you would have a good relationship with her. Oh, and also I never heard anything about there being bed bugs in the apartment building. We certainly didn't have any issues with bed bugs during our time there. Also, the apartment definitely had working smoke detectors/fire detectors.

Overall, I had a nice time living there and I would recommend it.

The only things I liked about this place had nothing to do with the building quality or the landlord. The location is pretty convenient, it was a large space, and had natural lighting, That is it.

The landlord is perhaps one of the worst that anyone would have the displeasure of dealing with. From gaslighting tenants (lying about damages or issues with the building being the fault of the tenants), being overpriced and poorly maintained (plumbing was a constant problem, building structure was horribly maintained- ceiling in the bathroom and one of the bedrooms repeatedly fell in and was poorly "fixed"), and serious health hazards (no fire detectors, no CO2 detectors, mold in the bathroom, cut window screens), there are just about zero redeeming factors about this apartment.

The landlord would show up unexpectedly or not at the time that was agreed upon and treated guests at our apartment extremely rudely (pre-COVID, we did not have guests over during the pandemic). In addition to the building being poorly maintained, there was an issue with the plumbing in the kitchen that lead to flooding due to her neglect after she was informed about a smaller issue. She blamed us (the tenants) for the issue and tried to extort more money from us upon the end of our lease term. She even went so far as to threaten to tell our parents about the issue as though she had the authority to do so and was extremely unprofessional as she blatantly lied about damage that had occurred before we moved in in order to justify the money she was asking for.

She would blame other issues that were directly caused by her neglect on other tenants. We were blamed for many incidents and were also wrongly led to believe that other tenants were causing issues. Through speaking to our neighbours, we found out that this has been recurring issue,

She also tried to blame bed bugs on us, which is clearly a long-term unresolved issue that was a problem in the building before we moved in. We were not warned about the possibility of bed bugs.

I strongly encourage you to look at other apartments and save yourself the hassle, stress, and money.
