When this landlord does show up in this building (which is quite rare), he occasionally jokes around. Example: This landlord thought one can of paint would be enough for 3 rooms. And he was serious.
Most contractors do not want to work with this landlord due to his temper when estimates on repairs are too high, his language barrier and overall misunderstanding of situations. Changing simple yet necessary things (such as locks) can take up to 6 months, and even longer. Changing one leaky pipe at a time because this landlord does not want to spend money changing the entire piping system results in disgusting stained bathroom ceilings and leaks everywhere.
This building is very old and not well kept but the apartments are spacious with high ceilings. The rooms are small but numerous. The floors are old and creaky and are slowing moving away from the walls. But, the area is quite nice although noisy during rush hour. Walking through Outremont is such an adventure. Four of the five apartments have their own private balconies. The walls and floors are thick and musicians can practice without disturbing the entire building. It is five minutes walking distance from Outremont metro, and 10 minutes with the bus from Rosemont metro. There are grocery stores on Bernard and more on Parc Avenue. This area is very safe.

Only one of the apartments has a washer/dryer entrance. There are quite a few laundromats and dry cleaners nearby. There are two depanneurs one block away.

When the trains pass by you can occasionally feel the rumble of the locomotive. The sunshine during the summer is on the private balconies all afternoon and evening.
