The landlord has a copy of keys for mailboxes and he dares open the tenants mailboxes.
If you don't agree to (abusive) rent increase, it's your right and the law allows to keep renewing the lease as is in this manner if the landlord doesn't open a case to the rental board for such matter with a reasonable delay. But this landlord will show passive-aggressive behavior, by lying about your rights, making you being scared of being evicted with threat to refuse to renew your lease, etc. He is very likely to use insulting words when he realizes he can't fool someone further.
Beware of this landlord.
