The building is a very old, dirty run-down building, even more run-down than the typical apartment you'd find in the McGill Ghetto. The location is also poor, located at the top of a steep hill away from the universities and nightlife. The apartment units are small, with very cramped common areas. The actual bedrooms are very, very small, barely bigger than a closet and can barely fit a single bed. I've also seen cockroaches around the building and my apartment unit occasionally. The rent charge is also pretty high, and you can definitely find better apartments in better locations for the same price or less if you aren't looking last minute.
However, what's worse than the actual apartment itself is the landlord that runs it. When I first moved in, I immediately noticed that the landlord had clearly spent no effort cleaning the apartment. There was dust everywhere, weird staining on the walls, a weird mold like substance growing on the edges between the floor and walls, and random debris from the previous tenant (e.g. pills, hair ties, cigarettes, etc.) located behind the closets and under the mattress. The landlord is also very rude and unhelpful, and does not answer calls and takes several days to respond to emails. Whenever I had any problems, the landlord would either completely ignore them or would make fake promises to resolve them and never did. Communication with the landlord is also difficult since he and his representative are not fully fluent in either English or French.
I would strongly recommend you avoid this apartment and landlord and look elsewhere.
