I registered an account to warn other fellow McGill students to avoid renting here and getting ripped off. List of complaints for this building 1) Noise is BRUTAL! EVERYDAY PROBLEM! All sorts of noise at all times of the night, not to mention there is students having parties in the back/walking through the alley late at night etc. The landlord says its an old building and nothing can be done about the noise. Every step the neighbour upstairs takes, every piece of furniture being moved or dragged across the floor can be heard annoyingly in the unit below. The fridge is horrible and makes loud rattling sounds in the middle of the night..being located right beside your bed is another thing to contribute to your lack of sleep. If you have to wake up early for class, and the neighbour living above you is dropping things on things on the floor and just walking around in the middle of the night, you'll hear every creak in the floor so tough luck for you. 2) NO AC-- Window has to stay open 24/7 because the apartment is HOT and therefore you get to fully experience the pleasure of being woken up by drilling noises at 8am in the back alley because some other landlord is making repairs to their building. There is a ceiling fan, however, the state of cleanliness of the fan suggests it hasn't been cleaned in a few decades. The ceiling fan makes all sorts of lovely squeaky rattling sounds to keep you up at night, which has to stay on to manage the stuffyness. 2) INSECT INFEStATION!!!! Ants, roaches n things I haven't seen before... 3 times people had to inconvenience me to come in and "treat" the problem, the problem hasn't been taken care of completely, note above poster mentioning landlord's son knocking and entering the apartment without warning and putting white powder through cracks and what not, exactly the case. Not to mention during the roach treatment I had to waste a whole day taking things out of my cabinets so pest control could take care of this. 3) Plumbing - is like 3rd world country, there are times when there is no hot water, shower is calibrated unsafely and water can suddenly run normally then turn scalding hot without warning - if you're not careful you'll get burned :( i) My toilet didn't work properly so every time I flushed it I had to raise the tank top and manually fix the rubber stopper so the tank would again fill with water for the next flush. ii) Taps are from the 1960s, so if you don't properly close them you'll hear the annoyance of dripping water forcing you to get up at night and tighten them properly. iii) One day smelly gross water started gushing from the ceiling soaking all the things in one of my cabinets and resulting in half my day being wasted cleaning up and dealing with the bullshit not to mention there was no water in the building for the whole day when that happened. 4) Kitchen (aka stove, fridge & sink setup)- nightmare with the roaches crawling all throughout the cabinets, drawers and just about over everything... YIKES! NO WORKSPACE! If you wanna actually cook something, good luck finding a place to put bowls and mix things without having stuff fall - if you have additional appliances like a blender/coffee maker you'll have no room to put anything and no room to work. Very cluttered. 5) LIGHTING- If you actually want to see the writing in your textbook you have to make the trip to Canadian Tire spend at least $20-$35 buy yourself some daytime spectrum lightbulbs and manually change every single bulb yourself and then you can say you have "lighting" There's a to put up with if you want to rent here and for the price it's not recommended as there are so many other buildings that are newer for almost the same price, but living here for a full year I see why it is worth paying slightly more and finding a building where I wouldn't have to deal with these problems. LEASE TERMS...I'm more upset with my lease because I initially always wanted a lease to end in May at the end of my semester, which would obviously give me the option to move out during the worst of the issue. The landlord told me I had to sign the lease for a year, not giving me the 8 month option and tying me down for the whole summer in a terrible hot building where half the tenants moved out. In a way my situation was taken advantage of because I needed an apartment last minute at the time, along with many other students who moved in after me but were able to get shorter leases. I was made to sign for a year which I never wanted to initially but the fear of not having an apartment for September allowed me to get taken advantage of and obviously as the months progressed and the problems of the apartment grew, I was "stuck" sadly still awaiting the day I can finally leave... SO now I won't be renting with this landlord in the future because overall I was not happy at all with how my living conditions and apartment significantly degraded as the months passed.

The apartment has a roach infestation. First thing is that early in the tenancy I noticed the roaches and alerted the landlord. He allows his son to enter the apartment unknown to you, to throw some white substance all over your belongings. They also enter your apartment without consent generally. The roaches are all over the place, including the lobby, apartments, fridge, stove and even cupboard. The rent here is very high for the stupid (but for convenience the place is great I guess). The landlord needs to treat with the roaches in the apartment. He also needs to address tenants complaints in timely manner. Also, the building is not properly insulated. I often hear my next door neighbors' phone conversations including when she has gas. The city inspectors should investigate this place.
